Duncan Atherton has over 21 years of experience as a Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon.
He currently works as a consultant at Guy's and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and as Deputy Head of Service for the Evelina Cleft Service.
He divides his time between a busy NHS service specialising in cleft lip and palate and a thriving private rhinoplasty practice. He is also an enthusiastic teacher and surgical trainer, continuing to publish widely in his field and to this end is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London.
Duncan studied medicine in London at St George’s Medical school, qualifying with a double distinction in 2000. He completed his initial surgical training at Cambridge University Hospital and was awarded his MD in 2006 for his thesis on nerve injury and healing from Imperial College. He continued his plastic surgery training in a number of London teaching hospitals, including Great Ormond Street, Charing Cross, Chelsea and Westminster and the Royal Free. He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, as a specialist plastic surgeon, in 2011. He has also completed the highly coveted Wellington cosmetic surgery fellowship as well as further sub specialty fellowships in cleft lip and palate surgery and in craniofacial surgery.
Beyond his clinical and academic achievements, Duncan is also known for his humanitarian efforts. In 2012, he joined Operation Smile, a charitable organization, and has volunteered his surgical expertise in numerous international missions. His selfless contributions have made a significant impact on the lives of individuals in countries such as Cambodia, Ethiopia, India, Madagascar, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Duncan only works with a small and carefully selected number of the most skilled and experienced anesthetists in London to ensure that this part of the journey remains safe and stress free. He has been working with this same small group for the last 5 years and Dr Mehta in particular does 75% of his cases
Dr Rajesh Mehta is a Consultant Anaesthetist at St Bartholomew’s and University College Hospital NHS Trusts. After completing his anaesthetic training at University College London he undertook a clinical research fellowship at The Royal Marsden Hospital specialising in the management of patients with head and neck cancer. He has since developed an interest in managing patients with challenging airways undergoing major craniofacial surgery and has over 15 years experience as a consultant in this field.
He also specializes in anaesthetizing patients undergoing neurosurgery. He is actively involved in teaching and training at both under and postgraduate level and has also undertaken charity work with the organization “Facing The World”. During this time he worked with a team of surgeons and nurses managing adults and children with craniofacial deformity in Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
Working closely with Mr Duncan Atherton he strives to provide the highest standard of anaesthetic care to patients undergoing septorhinoplasty and other aesthetic plastic surgical procedures in a busy Central London practice.
